Punishment for Irving

The Brooklyn Nets player’s mea culpa attempt for posting a link to a film with strong antisemitic sentiments, according to Kyrie Irving, was a total letdown. In a statement on Thursday, the commish addressed the controversy and didn’t mince words. According to Silver, a Jew, “Kyrie Irving made a careless decision to provide a link to a DVD containing profoundly offensive antisemitic material.”

“While we are grateful that he agreed to collaborate with the Brooklyn Nets and the Anti-Defamation League to fight antisemitism and other forms of discrimination, I am disappointed that he has not extended an unqualified apology or specifically denounced the vile and harmful material in the movie he chose to promote”. According to Silver

Kyrie donated $500k on Wednesday to “eradicate hate,”  previously reported. But refrained from entirely condemning the “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America!” project’s contents.

Silver is so furious that he promises to meet Kyrie in person within the following week to talk about the matter.

Irving stated in the statement, “I do not feel everything revealed in the documentary was truthful or represented my beliefs and principles,” but he did not specify which portions he was separating himself from.

Impact On His Decision

Not the two-sides-ism the Brooklyn Nets tried to impose when Kyrie last week endorsed an anti-Semitic documentary on his social media, which among other things employs a fabricated Adolf Hitler quotation and a conspiracy theory-filled cliche to malign Jews.

This is not the NBA league office’s choice, made much too late on Thursday, to release a terse statement from commissioner Adam Silver, in which Silver expressed his “disappointment” in Kyrie

This isn’t the National Basketball Players Association, of whom Kyrie is a vice president, issuing some generic antisemitism-is-bad press release over the weekend without pointing out the obvious: That the necessity of the statement was a direct result of Kyrie’s behavior.

All comments were meant to deflect attention from what Kyrie did and has continued to do; they were cowardly attempts to find a solution when the solution was clear: hold Kyrie Irving accountable.
